Fuzzy FMECA analysis of radioactive gas recovery system in the SPES experimental facility
2021
Abstract Selective Production of Exotic Species is an innovative plant for advanced nuclear physic studies. A radioactive beam, generated by using an UCx target-ion source system, is ionized, selected and accelerated for experimental objects. Very high vacuum conditions and appropriate safety systems to storage exhaust gases are required to avoid radiological risk for operators and people. In this paper, Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis of a preliminary design of high activity gas recovery system is performed by using a modified Fuzzy Risk Priority Number to rank the most critical components in terms of failures and human errors. Comparisons between fuzzy approach and classic…
Tuning Of Organic Heterojunction Conductivity By The Substituents' Electronic Effects In Phthalocyanines For Ambipolar Gas Sensors
2021
Abstract Exploiting organic heterojunction effects in electrical devices are an important strategy to improve the electrical conductivity, which can be utilized into improving the conductometric gas sensors performances. In this endeavor, the present article reports fabrication of organic heterostructures in a bilayer device configuration incorporating octa-substituted nickel phthalocyanines (NiPc) and radical lutetium bis-phthalocyanine (LuPc2) and investigates their sensing properties towards NH3 vapor. NiPc having hexyl sulfanyl, hexyl sulfonyl and p-carboxyphenoxy moieties are synthesized, which electronic effects are electron donating, accepting and moderate accepting, respectively, al…
Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure: Prognostic Comparison from Peak VO2 and VE/VCO2 Slope
2010
Background: Cardiopulmonary exercise testing with ventilatory expired gas analysis (CPET) has proven to be a valuable tool for assessing patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). The maximal oxygen uptake (peak V02) is used in risk stratification of patients with CHF. The minute ventilation-carbon dioxide production relationship (VE/VCO2 slope) has recently demonstrated prognostic significance in patients with CHF. Methods: Between January 2006 and December 2007 we performed CPET in 184 pts (146 M, 38 F, mean age 59.8 ± 12.9 years), with stable CHF (96 coronary artery disease, 88 dilated cardiomyopathy), in NYHA functional class II (n.107) - III (n.77), with left ventricular ejection frac…
Numerical decomposition of geometric constraints
2005
Geometric constraint solving is a key issue in CAD/CAM. Since Owen's seminal paper, solvers typically use graph based decomposition methods. However, these methods become difficult to implement in 3D and are misled by geometric theorems. We extend the Numerical Probabilistic Method (NPM), well known in rigidity theory, to more general kinds of constraints and show that NPM can also decompose a system into rigid subsystems. Classical NPM studies the structure of the Jacobian at a random (or generic) configuration. The variant we are proposing does not consider a random configuration, but a configuration similar to the unknown one. Similar means the configuration fulfills the same set of inci…
Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Equivalence Ratio (ER) and Feedstock Particle Size on Birchwood Gasification
2017
This paper discusses the characteristics of Birchwood gasification using the simulated results of a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model. The CFD model is developed and validated with the experimental results obtained with the fixed bed downdraft gasifier available at the University of Agder (UIA), Norway. In this work, several parameters are examined and given importance, such as producer gas yield, syngas composition, lower heating value (LHV), and cold gas efficiency (CGE) of the syngas. The behavior of the parameters mentioned above is examined by varying the biomass particle size. The diameters of the two biomass particles are 11.5 mm and 9.18 mm. All the parameters investigate wit…
Rīgas Mazās ģildes cunftu tradīciju dinamika, 14. gadsimta otrā puse līdz 16. gadsimta beigas
2020
The records of 28 taxa of marine algae from the Central Mediterranean coast of Spain are given. 24 are new records for this sector of Spanish coast. Specilly interesting are Peyssonnelia codana, recorded for first time in the mediterranean coasts of Spain, Peyssonnelia feldmannii, Ceramium fastigiatum var. flaccida, y Cystoseria sauvageauan…
Design, construction and cooling system performance of a prototype cryogenic stopping cell for the Super-FRS at FAIR
2015
A cryogenic stopping cell for stopping energetic radioactive ions and extracting them as a low energy beam was developed. This first ever cryogenically operated stopping cell serves as prototype device for the Low-Energy Branch of the Super-FRS at FAIR. The cell has a stopping volume that is 1 m long and 25 cm in diameter. Ions are guided by a DC field along the length of the stopping cell and by a combined RF and DC fields provided by an RE carpet at the exit-hole side. The ultra-high purity of the stopping gas required for optimum ion survival is reached by cryogenic operation. The design considerations and construction of the cryogenic stopping cell, as well as some performance character…
The CO2 output from the Sperchios Basin area (central Greece): the role of hidden degassing from streams
2018
The Sperchios Basin is an actively spreading rift area with deeply rooted extensional faults and also a site of quaternary volcanic activity. Such geologic conditions favoured the formation of many hydrothermal systems, whose surface expressions are among the biggest thermal springs of the whole Greece. Degassing of deeply derived geogenic CO2 is highlighted by strong bubbling within the main pools of the springs. Flux measurements were made in the Thermopyles spring with the floating chamber method and results showed that bubbling gases in the spring release about 1 ton/day of CO2. The outgoing stream has a flow of more than 250 l/s of water rich in CO2 (about 16 mmol/l). Although no bubbl…
